Today my main plan was to check out the course, and do some pre-riding. Started with a huge breakfast on the top of the hotel, and then off to the park. It was raining off and on, and everything was soaked. The parking lot is a big mud pit, and there is currently a tractor employed full time pulling out vehicles from the mud.
I watched the start of one of the 40-44 seeding heats, with Bill Elliston. He had a good start, taking the hole shot, but someone took him out on the high speed, downhill mud after the paved starting straight. I then counted him at 11th, but he worked his way up to finish 7th.
Some parts of the back section are rideable, but it looks like a lot of running.
I did two laps, and then I was completely frozen. The flyover is much taller and harder then it looks in the photos and videos. Overall, it looks like a course where it will be very easy to waste energy, but hard to make up time. The straight mud sections are slow and thick, and the technical parts require good control. When I left, it was snowing. Straight to the shower.
The Clement PDX seemed like a very good tire option, good grip, and plenty of mud shedding.
